Mass shooting at gay club in Orlando
Orlando, Florida – At approximately 2 AM ET, this morning, there was mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The facts are still unfolding, and the number of victims and shooters are still unknown at this time, but it has been described by law enforcement as a “mass causality event.” There have also been reports of explosives on the scene. This happens a few days after an explosive was discovered in a Target store in Illinois.
At this point there is not enough information to issue a full statement, but Freedom Oklahoma is in contact with our colleagues in Florida, and will make a full statement later today, as soon as details are confirmed.
We will have media availability after 1 PM today.
The following statement can be attributed to Freedom Oklahoma executive director, Troy Stevenson:
“The shooting in Orlando is absolutely tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our sisters and brothers in Florida. This is a difficult time for our community; however we ask that everyone stand strong, be vigilant, and watch out for one another. We must not allow acts of violence or terrorism to intimidate us. As Oklahomans we understand as well as anyone how devastating attacks like this can be, but we can not allow fear to define us.”
