For the second year in a row a small handful of vitriolic lawmakers proposed a record number of bills aimed at hurting our community. And for the second year in a row we have defeated ALL of their attempts. You read that correctly, together, we defeated ALL 27 anti-LGBTQ bills this session!
We have seen a truly unprecedented amount of community pushback, and fair-minded legislators from both parties listened. It is our greatest hope that going forward we will be fighting for positive change, rather than fighting back against discrimination. But no matter what, we will keep fighting until every Oklahoman is equal under the law, and in every walk of life.
We would like to thank all of you for your trips to the Capitol, your phone calls, your letters and emails, and all of your posts on social media. We would also like to thank our partners in this effort, the Gill Action Fund, the Equality Federation, the ACLU of Oklahoma, Oklahomans for Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, the Family Equality Council, and so many others.
Our fight is far from over, we will now move on to pushing for protections in municipalities around the state of Oklahoma, and to educating the public on the issues facing our community.
