The Safety to Rest

Like many (and also not enough) progressive organizations, Freedom Oklahoma has a robust leave policy that balances unlimited PTO and set holidays, to try to encourage folks to actually take down time. And still, it’s hard to step away from the work, even when we know that to be truly sustainable, it can’t depend on any single one of us. 

That’s why each year in July, we shut the office down for at least a week. Some of us wrap that into longer travel, trying to take advantage of a slightly less busy/demanding time (whatever that means in this nonstop news cycle). We share this to say, we are trying to build a future where we have the safety to rest by practicing rest in the present. 

Because movement building is nothing if not an experiment in building the infrastructure for the future we deserve. 

Thank you for investing in the liberatory practice of rest, and the space to try and do rest well. 

We hope this season brings you joy and ease, and rest, too. And if it doesn’t come your way, we hope there’s space to rest anyway.
